Long Time No Blog

December 25, 2006, 9:33 pm

My blogging is somewhat curtailed, recently: I’ve changed jobs (which I’ve resisted blogging about for the most part), moved to another state, and have lost a few loved ones in the past year. It’s been a lot of upheaval and stress. I’m hoping that 2007 is a little calmer, so that I can get back [...]

The Island

May 10, 2006, 8:14 am

Finally got around to watching The Island on DVD. I knew going in that the movie was a pastiche of Logan’s Run and (more directly) Clonus. You would think, though, given the resources of Michael Bay that the movie would at least equal the other two movies. But it really doesn’t.

The main problem (as with [...]

Kirk Cameron on Evolution

April 18, 2006, 9:57 pm

Kirk Cameron thinks evolution is a crock! Well, if the former Growing Pains star says so, it must be true!

Gamera 4 Trailer

April 17, 2006, 7:17 pm

Looks like another Gamera movie is on the way. This looks more like a goofy throwback to the 60s version and not a continuation of the more modern version of the 90s. But it also looks like a rather charming “boy and his flying, death-dealing turtle film”, and I have to love that. We need [...]

War of the Worlds, Redux

March 5, 2006, 7:29 pm

I watched the Spielberg War of the Worlds today on DVD, and my thoughts on it really haven’t changed since I saw it in the theater: good effects, great sound, poor movie. But I realized that the DVD could have really improved the movie immensely with one special feature: the ability to mute Dakota [...]

Akira Ifukube

February 9, 2006, 7:54 pm

Akira Ifukube, the composer for a number of Godzilla movies, died on February 8th. Godzilla movies were a constant presence for me growing up (and still are) and the Godzilla theme always gives me goosebumps. It’s a sad day for giant monster fans.

Star Trekkin’

Star Trek news aplenty today, for some reason.

George Takei comes out of the closet
Shatner interview footage on Google Video: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five: this is all raw footage, but quite interesting
Also via Google Video, you can rock out with Shatner’s Lucy in the Sky
Here’s a review of the [...]

Rick Springfield Returns to General Hospital

October 17, 2005, 10:36 pm

I grew up with sisters. That means I grew up having to watch various soap operas. One sister enjoyed the NBC dramas, like Days of Our Lives, the other two tended to gravitate to the ABC shows: All My Children, One Life to Live, and, of course, General Hospital. (As an aside: if Apple wants [...]
