Emmy (age 15) used to bring home mice to play with, and the kids and I would "catch and release" - after the "why we can't keep this cute little bag of hanta virus as a pet" speech! Now Molly (age 2) brings home the bacon...er, mice and does the same thing.
Here's what I don't understand. The cats get cat food. They have cool cat toys. They don't want to eat the mice - they just want to torture them until they collapse from terror. There is another way...
Don't neuter/spay your pets. Then they can have kids and torture them. Speaking from almost 25 years of experience, it's way more fun to torture your kids than cute little animals, like mice. I'm just sayin'...
(My kids won't read this, will they? They can't sue me, can they, Tom?)

You need a cat like Merlin. Despite finding at least one mummified mouse when we moved in, the only mouse we have seen since that time is one he killed. He has also killed dozens of birds (and, yes, we have had live birds in the house), lizards and even a ground suirrel.

Heck, he kills so much in the spring and summer we hardly have to feed him.
