Short and sweet this week. Nothing mind-bendingly weird this time, but still some good oddities. And a very disturbing video.
- Microchip saves rare Cambodian turtle from landing in Chinese soup pot: NPR had a story on the return of the turtle to Cambodia. It sounded like an old spy film, with the two parties meeting on a bridge, with the turtle brought to the middle to be handed off.
- China to send pig sperm to space: Pigs in Spaaaaace!
- Diamonds: Long-Dead Sea Creatures? I wonder if DeBeers will buy up the ocean floor to maintain their diamond monopoly?
- Deep-sea animal hunts with light: Whenever I hear about new sea creatures, I always wonder what Aquaman would use them for. I think he would use these guys as living lava lamps to set the mood for his romantic evenings with Aqualad.
- Nationwide moth hunt under way: And people think that Star Trek fans are odd.
- Mice gang up on endangered birds: I warn you, the video at this link is extremely disturbing. This species of albatross hasn’t had to deal with land-based predators, so these mice bite them in the same spot, over and over, until they bleed to death. And since they have no experience fending off the creatures, the albatrosses just sit and allow it to happen. It’s really awful.
