Here’s this week’s weird oddities. Or odd weirdities.
Science
- Abu Ghraib for Insects
- Crammed Into a Steel Ball, Headed Into the Inky Dark: A review of the book Descent, about the creation of the bathysphere.
- William Beebe: Going Deeper: more about William Beebe (one of the subjects of the above story).
- ‘Obsessive’ Birds Egg Collector Jailed : this guy had something like 3,000 nightingale and nightjar eggs.
- The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds: not really weird: just a great looking and usable site about bird conservation efforts.
Pseudo Science
- The Snowman Cometh: Obligatory Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti link. This time, it’s a UC Berkeley art exhibit about the big guy.
Religion
- DVD-Powered Prayer Wheel: Contains 1.3 trillion prayers on 128 DVDs. What, no Adam Sandler movies?
- ‘Virgin Mary’ on US motorway wall: You know, instead of hanging around some stains for hours on end, how about donating some blood or volunteering for some charity work: I think Mary would like that more.
Other Weirdness
- Woman who claimed to find finger in chili arrested: this story just keeps going…
- Questionable Content #344: General Mills Will Call Me Any Day Now: Oedipal Marshmallow bits. Heh. ;)
